Gears have a standardised geometry. Their measurement is carried out according to DIN 3962.
Very small modules (approx. 0.03) can occur, especially with plastic gears. Profile form deviation, flank line deviation and pitch are measured. Depending on the application of the gears, the tolerances are in the range of a few µm up to approx. 1/10 mm. The measuring time plays a subordinate role. In contrast to metallic gears, all teeth of plastic gears must be tested, as the teeth do not have any interdependencies due to the process.
