Glossary I

Terms related to coordinate metrology with optics, stylus, computed tomography and multi-sensor systems

IATF 16949

The first edition of the ISO/TS 16949 standard (predecessor of IATF 16949) at the end of the 1990s led to new requirements for the metrological traceability of the test equipment used. Coordinate measuring machines are particularly suitable for monitoring or calibrating this test equipment.

ISO 10360

Series of standards for coordinate metrology and coordinate measuring systems, defines specifications and procedures for acceptance and reverification tests as well as for the determination of the measurement uncertainty of coordinate measuring systems (for coordinate measuring systems with computed tomography, the conversion of the VDI guideline into an ISO standard is still in progress)

Image processing

The measuring object is imaged through a lens onto a matrix camera and the digital image is used to calculate the measurement points in an evaluation computer with appropriate image processing software.

Industrial image processing

Industrial metrology

Measuring equipment and procedures that serve the goal of monitoring and optimising the manufacturing process of a workpiece, as well as their development and application. Quality assurance refers to both the product and the process.

Inline measurement

With inline solutions, the metrology is fully integrated into the production line. Measurement in the production cycle places high demands on the measuring speed of the computed tomography and multi-sensor coordinate measuring systems. For the necessary automation, robot loading and interfaces to most software systems are available for the Werth machines.

interferometric sensor

With a superluminescent diode and a measuring probe connected via a fibre coupler, the information about the difference in time of flight of the light reflected at the probe exit surface and the workpiece surface is projected by the interferometer onto a line camera and the distance is determined from this.
