Printed circuit boards are flat workpieces, often very large in a single plane, on which a great many properties are tested. Important geometrical characteristics are the hole pattern and distances between the electrical components. In addition, the continuity of the bonding wires, faults in solder connections and other defects are tested. With tolerances of 20 µm to 50 µm, the requirements for measurement uncertainty are in the medium range. The demands on the measuring time are very high.
