Dressing wheels have geometrically undefined cutting edges with a polycrystalline surface. The profile shape, angles, radii and distances are measured directly on the dressing wheels or indirectly on the grinding-in coupon. The requirements on the measurement uncertainty are very high due to the very small tolerances of approx. 5 µm. The same applies to the requirements for the measurement time, since measurements are usually taken during the process. The surface of the dressing wheels, which is partly highly reflective and partly transparent, places special demands on the sensors.
