Dr Thomas Liebrich, responsible for the High and Ultra-Precision Manufacturing department at RhySearch, the Rhine Valley Research and Innovation Centre: "We rely on extremely accurate but also very flexible metrology to assess the high- and ultra-precision workpieces we produce with shape, size and position tolerances down to the sub-micrometre range. For example, we measure workpieces made from a wide range of materials – from brittle-hard to very sensitive –, but also different surfaces from reflective to matt."
